Algaida

Tradition and nature

Located in the southwest of the Pla de Mallorca, Algaida reflects the rustic charm of the Mallorcan tradition, with its traditional architecture and landscapes of fields, olive groves and vineyards. Located just 20 kilometres from the capital, the municipality covers an area of 87.61 square kilometres and includes three urban centres: Algaida, Pina and Randa, each with its own identity and attractions.

Algaida is rich in history, especially the Gothic-Majorcan parish churches of Sant Pere and Sant Pau. The area also boasts several historic windmills, such as Molí d’en Xina, which are iconic symbols of the local landscape.

Archaeological sites

The area has been inhabited since pre-Talayotic times, and there are numerous sites that bear witness to the human presence since then. The most notable are Sa Serra-Punxuat and Sa Casa Nova de Pina, which offer a unique window into the island’s Talayotic past.

Local cuisine

Algaida’s cuisine reflects its agricultural wealth, with dishes based on the products of its fields and vineyards. The local restaurants and markets are the perfect place to sample the authentic flavours of Mallorca.
