Tradition and dynamism
Vilafranca de Bonany is a town that stands out for its rich history and community life. With an old quarter that preserves traditional architecture, narrow streets and historic buildings such as the parish church of Santa Bárbara and the Casas de Sant Martí d’Alanzell, Vilafranca invites you to discover its past and enjoy its dynamic present.
The municipality has achieved a balance between different productive sectors, with a growing population motivated by the quality of life it offers. Basic services such as health, education, culture and sport are well developed, and its proximity to economic centres such as Manacor, together with the demand for labour in the agricultural and industrial sectors, have attracted a diverse population and contributed to the municipality’s dynamism.
Historical and Archaeological Heritage
The municipality has fourteen archaeological sites that testify to the antiquity of human settlements in the area, including talayots such as Castellot Vell and Son Pou Vell, and prehistoric remains in Sa Moleta. These archaeological sites, together with surviving Arabic place names such as Albadallet and Alcúdiarrom, and the Pou Viguet from the Islamic period, tell the story of the occupation and cultural development of Vilafranca.
Festivities and local culture
One of the highlights of the year is the celebration of Santa Bàrbara, the village’s patron saint, in December. This festival combines religious acts with festive and cultural events, reflecting the community spirit and local tradition that characterise the town.
